Antibiotic-Resistant Gene Behavior in Constructed Wetlands Treating Sewage: A Critical Review

چکیده
The main objective of this review is to evaluate the performance constructed wetlands (CWs) used reduce antibiotic-resistant genes (ARGs) during sewage treatment. To accomplish objective, statistical and correlation analyses were performed using published data determine influence operational design parameters on ARG reduction in CWs. effects parameters, such as different CW configurations, seasonality, monoculture polyculture, support medium, hydraulic retention time (HRT), removals, analyzed. A comparison under configurations showed that hybrid configuration surface flow (SF)–vertical subsurface (VSSF) achieved highest reductions, with values 1.55 ulog. In case, aeration considered an important factor ARGs CWs, it should be future studies. However, reductions not significant (p > 0.05). same behavior was observed when factors analyzed results study show CWs are optimal technologies sewage. combination advanced wastewater can a solution for enhancing reducing spread antibiotic resistance.

Nitrifyers in constructed wetlands treating landfill leachates
Landfill leachate is produced many years after a landfill site closes. Hence, treatment by “natural methods”, as e.g. constructed wetlands, with low management requirements is attractive. Constructed wetlands usually provide both shallow and deep areas with aerobic and anaerobic zones, which is suitable for nitrification followed by denitrification of the ammonium-rich leachates. Full-scale tre...

Most of domestic wastewater is either untreated or only primarily settled by septic tanks in Taiwan. Manure produced by concentrated swine operations is also one of the primary pollution sources of watercourses. Recently, constructed wetlands have received tremendous interests as one of the contemporary alternatives employing to enhance the water quality regarding nitrogen nutrients due to the ...
متن کاملConstructed Wetlands for Wastewater Treatment: A Review
The first experiments on the use of wetland plants to treat wastewaters were carried out in the early 1950s by Dr. Käthe Seidel in Germany. The first full scale systems were put in operation during the late 1960s and since then constructed wetland systems have been spreading throughout the world. At present, there are several types of constructed wetlands used for wastewater treatment. Free wat...
متن کاملCarbon and nitrogen dynamics and greenhouse gas emissions in constructed wetlands treating wastewater: a review
The removal efficiency of carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) in constructed wetlands (CWs) is very inconsistent and frequently does not reveal whether the removal processes are due to physical attenuation or whether the different species have been transformed to other reactive forms. Previous research on nutrient removal in CWs did not consider the dynamics of pollution swapping (the increase of one p...

Pathways of ammonium (NH4 (+)) removal were investigated using the stable isotope approach in constructed wetlands (CWs). We investigated and compared several types of CWs: planted horizontal subsurface flow (HSSF), unplanted HSSF, and floating plant root mat (FPRM), including spatial and seasonal variations. Plant presence was the key factor influencing efficiency of NH4 (+) removal in all CWs...
